President Mwai Kibaki commissions the Masalani Bridge in Ijara District

President Mwai Kibaki today commissioned the Masalani Bridge in Ijara district and reaffirmed his Government commitment to improve infrastructure country wide for the benefit of wananchi. Speaking after commissioning the unique Masalani suspension bridge, President Kibaki urged Ijara residents to take advantage of the new bridge by increasing their livestock and farm produce as transportation of goods to the market was now easier.

President Mwai Kibaki today commissioned the Masalani Bridge in Ijara district and reaffirmed his Government commitment to improve infrastructure country wide for the benefit of wananchi. Speaking after commissioning the unique Masalani suspension bridge, President Kibaki urged Ijara residents to take advantage of the new bridge by increasing their livestock and farm produce as transportation of goods to the market was now easier. In this regard, The President urged wananchi to re-elect him for a second term so that he could accomplish the development projects he has initiated. Addressing a mammoth public rally at Masalani Baraza Park in Ijara district, President Kibaki expressed confidence that he will win the election as majority of Kenyans supported the development he has implemented and they are on his side.

Stressing that his Government was committed to implementing development in all parts of the country without discrimination, President Kibaki said plans are underway to rehabilitate the road networking in the district so as to open up remote areas for rapid development. President Kibaki also approved the creation of two more divisions so as to take Government services closer to wananchi. President Kibaki also reassured Ijara residents that his Government has earmarked supply of electricity through the rural electrification programme starting at the district headquarters which will be extended to all divisional headquarters.

President Kibaki said his government will also expedite the on going implementation of water projects in the district to ensure all residents have access to clean water.

Other speakers included KANU chairman uhuru Kenyatta and the immediate former Member of parliament Yusuf Hajji who assured the President that Ijara resident appreciated the development he has implemented in the district and will vote for him overwhelmingly. Mr. Uhuru on his part said Kenyans will vote for president Kibaki because of his sterling development record. The KANU chairman dismissed those agitating for Majimboism saying the system was retrogressive as it would only serve to divide Kenyans.
